Kenya

When people think of safaris, they often picture Kenya’s Maasai Mara. These are the classic open savannas, the famous Mara river crossings, where thousands of wildebeest and zebras must annually cross crocodile-infested waters.

The main park can become very congested with tourists, especially in peak seasons, so we carefully use private concessions bordering the Maasai Mara Reserve to give guests a more private and wild experience. The wildlife is truly amazing and it is also a pleasure to meet the local Maasai people or observe how they coexist with wildlife.

Further east, overlooking the magnificent Mount Kilimanjaro, we opt to visit the Chyulu Hills between Kenya’s Tsavo and Amboseli National Parks, located on private land on the Mbirikani Ranch, which 4,000 Maasai own. Here roam some of Africa’s biggest tusked elephants, while general game viewing is also excellent, offering a great diversity of activities to experience this magical place.

A comprehensive Kenya safari route should include visiting the Laikipia area to the north. Whether to see an enigmatic melanistic leopard or a healthy population of rhinos, this area adds great variation in landscape and wildlife.
