Flying to Africa from the USA is a long way to go. To us, the flight time and time difference are significant enough to warrant a longer trip duration. This might not all be safari time - it could be spending time in a beautiful city like Cape Town, or adding an Indian Ocean tropical island destination after the trip.

If you only want to focus on a safari, we would suggest a minimum of 8 nights (4 nights at 2 camps) or 9 nights (3 nights at 3 camps). Most of our safaris are 12 days or more though, and we very seldom recommend less than 3 nights in a safari camp. Settling into the bush vibe at a camp takes time and you want to give time for the place to reveal itself, so try not to rush it.

The range of the cost of a safari is significant. One thing to know is that it is not cheap. Even a cheap safari is not cheap. 

Our focus is on ensuring you get the best possible experience. We focus on private, exclusive lodges in wild areas without the distractions of hoards of other tourists and where we know that animals are consistently being treated respectfully. If a lodge is in a National Park accessible to other tourists and self-drives, we choose lodges far enough away from the main entrance that very few day trippers reach the area. All of these choices prioritise getting you a premium game viewing experience.

Prices fluctuate through the year and by country. Averaged out, $1,000-$1500/day per person could get you a really good safari. These costs can be a lot more with premium camps in high season reaching over $4,000/day per person.

We encourage guests to form their own group of a minimum of 4 - 6 people. Choosing friends or family to travel with you on safari has many benefits, including the likelihood of having your own private vehicle at no extra cost. Sometimes sharing a vehicle with other guests at camp who you don't know can be challenging - especially if they have different interests to you, or are just not enjoyable company. Having your own vehicle and guide limits those unknown variables, allowing you to enjoy your safari at your own pace, in your own way. If you are traveling alone or with fewer people but prefer exclusivity, private vehicles can be booked at an additional cost. Having said all this, most of the time it seems to work out fine when people share a vehicle with other guests.

We work closely with you to ensure you visit the best locations at the best time. This may include taking into account your travel window, but also your budget and what you are most interested in seeing. Seasonality affects weather, price, bird diversity, animal behavior and access to areas.

Although not a requirement to book a True Wild safari, we strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance that covers your entire safari. Medical evacuation insurance of at least $250,000 is, however, obligatory and is inexpensive.

True Wild does not book international air travel, however, we can make recommendations for flight routes and we partner with an excellent team who specializes in arranging international flights for travellers going on safari, so we would be happy to introduce you to them. We take over your safari travel experience once you arrive at your first destination where you will begin your safari.
