Zambia

Zambia is one of our personal favorite countries for safaris. We particularly love the variety of small, owner-run camps, which focus on genuine and immersive experiences. Activities in Zambia are generally diverse, including boating and walking as well as game drives. There are also particularly high chances of seeing leopards in Zambia, satisfying a natural bias of ours : )
The safari season is typically focused on the dry, winter period. We tend to promote going between June and September. It starts to get quite warm in September, but the game viewing experience becomes more intense as the dry season progresses, making August and September peak game viewing times. That said, June and July are also very good game viewing periods. The three key wildlife regions are South Luangwa N.P., Lower Zambezi N.P., and Kafue N.P. and Kafue N.P. For those wanting to visit the Victoria Falls, you would go to the town of Livingstone and either stay at a lodge along the Zambezi on the Zambian side, or cross over to the town of Victoria Falls on the Zimbabwe side of the river.
South Luangwa National Park
Seen as the flagship park in Zambia, South Luangwa N.P. is an exceptional wildlife viewing destination. We tend to use camps as far away from the park’s main entrance to ensure as little overlap with other tourists, providing our guests with the most exclusivity. Game drives and walking safaris are the main activities here, with outstanding predator viewing, especially leopards, lions and painted dogs. It is also fascinating for having several unique and striking species endemic to the area: Thornicroft’s Giraffe, Crawshay’s Zebra, and Cookson’s Wildebeest.
Lower Zambezi National Park
A smaller park adjoining the mighty Zambezi River, Lower Zambezi N.P. has become one of the iconic parks to visit with the main game viewing areas surrounded by the mountains to the north and the wide river bordering Zimbabwe to the south. Boating here is a real treat, with game drives and walking adding to the diversity of activities. The spectacular winterthorn forests in the east of the park make for a wildlife viewing wonderland, especially when leopards and elephants are perfect subjects to photograph in this special, filtered light coming through the trees.
Kafue National Park (Busanga Plains and Musekese)
At over 20,000 square kilometers, Kafue National Park is the largest park in Zambia and a delight to visit. Significant conservation efforts in this area are restoring Kafue to be an iconic wildlife destination. Visiting places like the Busanga Plains where lions abound hunting lechwe antelope in the open plains, or the Musekese region along the Kafue River, makes for a unique and exceptional experience. This is also the best place in Zambia to see cheetahs.
